| If you are enrolled in a
regular class, your lab work is done in Building 19, Interpreter Training Lab: Room 216 E, and CBE lab: Room 216 A. The classroom is in Building 16, Room 137. You are expected to be in class during classroom hours. Points will be deducted from your final grade for absences beyond those permitted. (Four absences per quarter in day classes; two absences per quarter in night classes, and assignments turned in late for telecourses) |
| |
| If you are in the
telecourse, your lab work maybe done in Building 19, (Interpreter Training Lab) the Center nearest you, or your own home. |
| |
| This course is designed to build vocabulary receptive and expressive skills and grammatical structure of ASL. |
| |
| You are required to have the following materials: |
| |
| |
VHS videotape: |
|
One is required; more is advised but optional. For telecourse students the mail tends to be unreliable at times and if you have two tapes you do not have to wait for one tape to come back before you start on another lesson. |
| |
Course learning guide/workbook: |
|
ASL I, 101 Workbook |
|
| |
| As part of this course, you will be producing videotapes with signed sentences, stories, or vocabulary lessons. You will be writing sentences, stories, or vocabulary lessons on paper. |
| |
| You will receive instruction in vocabulary on the regular telecourse production or in the classroom and then practice those skills. |
| |
| Here are the rules for the use of the CBE Lab and the ITP Lab which you may come in and use at any time. In fact I would encourage you to do this if you are in the vicinity: |
| |
| Competency Based Lab (CBE) (Building 19) |
| 1. |
You must have a student identification card. When you check out materials from the lab, your card will be held until the materials are returned. |
| 2. |
You must have the name of your class, the task you are working on, and the correct name of the video or audiotape you wish to have. These are all listed in your workbooks. |
|
| |
| Interpreter Training Lab (ITP) (Building 19) |
| 1. |
The lab is a silent area. You must sign at all times. NO whispering. |
| 2. |
Use the sign in sheets when you come into the lab. |
| 3. |
Food and drink are never permitted in the lab or CBE area. |
| 4. |
Follow the instructions as to how to use the equipment. If you are not sure, then ASK. Please DO NOT push buttons trying to get the equipment to work! |
| 5. |
If you check out tapes from the cabinets in the ITP lab or from the monitoring room, you must remove the identification card inside the videotape box, write your name on it, and give it to the lab technician. |
| 6. |
On instructor
reviews, you will make your videotape, then place it along with the instructor review form from the workbook on the
"Instructor Review" shelf. Your instructor will review your tape, grade it and place the tape back on the
"Completed Review" shelf. Your form will be placed in the box labeled
"Completed review forms." |
|
|
| Long Distance Learners/Telecourse Students |
| 1. |
You will receive a letter from the telecourse office that will identify due dates and procedures for assignments. |
| 2. |
If the sign shown on the video and in the book are different, please use the sign in the
book. |
