TMP Spokane Phase II 2006-7: Construction
October Agenda
Spokane’s project for Phase II has been to develop an annual Math Symposium and an Out Reach program. In 2006-7, math educators from the Spokane area met 3 times at SFCC to develop these efforts. The intent of the symposium was to bring together math educators from local unversities, community colleges and high schools to share information on standards and initiatives at the local and state level, to engage faculty in activities that promote an understanding of standards and shared challenges in curriculum and pedagogy, and to serve as a platform for launching and sharing initiatives promoting student success in mathematics. The OutReach program intended to recruit college math faculty to visit high school classrooms, providing information about college preparation and transitions. In support of these visits, a video, PowerPoint presentation and website were developed to provide a core of consistent and accurate information and to relieve busy faculty of the full burden of preparation for the visits.

May 04 Summit Agenda
Particpants in Spokane Curriculum Collaboration discussions joined the state Transition Math project early, with a fair number representing Spokane during the drafting of the College Readiness Standards, which was Phase I of the TMP. In Spokane, math educators were invited to a summit at SFCC in 2004 and a retreat at EWU in 2005 supporting a positive dialogue toward alignment.

Curriculum Collaboration Committee
Minutes 12-2-03
The Transition Math Project effort in Spokane was an extension of the Curriculum Collaboration Committee, a group formed by Dr. Dalla of EWU at the request of local administrators Steve Jordan of EWU, Brian Benzel of the Spokane School District and Michael Jones of the East Valley School District, who shared concerns about the number of students requiring remediation in math once they entered college.
