The English Early Advocacy Program is a pilot project dually funded by the college and Title 3, and created by 3 SFCC English faculty. We will contact your student, meet with him or her to find out what is interfering with his/her success in your class, direct the student to appropriate resources (tutoring, counseling, advising, other classes, etc.), and then follow-up with the student to ensure the intervention is making a difference. We will follow-up with you as well. According to the 2005-06 SFCC Annual Report, the English Department serves at-risk students. Compared to all SFCC students, students served by the English Department were more likely to be economically disadvantaged, more likely to have disabilities, and more likely to test into developmental reading. We hope to better support these students by improving student persistence, their success in our classes, their knowledge of the resources available to them, and their connection to the college. Refer students any time during weeks 2-5 of spring quarter. Questions? Contact Lavonne Weller at lavonnew@spokanefalls.edu or call 533-3912. |
