The annual exhibit that honors the graduates of SFCC’s art program displays a diverse array of talent for students on campus.
Located in the gallery in Building six, it is a fundamental showcase for its participants to put their work out as well as the faculty who have taught them through the years to see their student’s progress.
Head of the Art Department, Tom O’Day, said the students aren’t the only ones who enjoy this exhibit
“All of the instructors enjoy seeing the work that theyíve helped the students create so itís a nice accomplishment for us as well,” O’Day said. “As an instructor, it is nice to see their work up.”
The exhibit shows a variety of art created by students, including paintings, handmade prints, sculptures, and drawings. Many students have chosen to put their pieces up for sale.
O’Day said the fine arts program at SFCC is unique in that students are able to exhibit their work.
Many steps have to be taken into account when a piece is to be displayed, including the optimum lighting, how the work is hung, and making sure it is free of errors. All work to be displayed needs to be complete and have a clean presentation.
O’Day feels the exhibit is an important part of the art program as a whole, because it shows the progress students have made and gives the instructors within the program a feeling of accomplishment as well.
“A lot of them have really done some amazing things and their work has changed a lot since theyíve been here,” he said “That’s the final process: to connect with the viewer and hear a response.”
