Letter to
the Editor |
We received this letter regarding the May 8 headline “Mentally ill student escorted off campus.”
People who have disabilities are just that, people! People who have disabilities come in many different ways. We are students, employees/employers, someone’s family member, possibly someone’s spousal partner and maybe even somebody’s parent.
To identify a person by their disability, color of skin, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or political beliefs when talking about anything in a negative light or a sensitive subject is wrong.
Anyone is capable of violence whether they are or are not disabled, no matter what their gender is, no matter what their gender is, no matter what their race is, etc.
Anyone is capable of doing positive things also no matter what their political viewpoint, religious beliefs, disabilities, etc.
So look at the person before you look at their successes or weaknesses.
Tiffani.
