Acting, yoga, classical piano and belly dancing are just some of Rachel Chung’s hobbies.
In addition to school, Chung is also working on her third major production at SFCC, portraying the titular character, Antigone. She also played Jocosta in last quarter’s production of Oedipus and was a chorus leader in Lysistrata last Fall.
Chung described playing Jocosta and Antigone (who are mother and daughter) back-to-back as very odd.
“They’re both different people, similar personalities but different experiences,” she said.
She said she enjoys Antigone more because she is a stubborn person, much like herself.
Director of Antigone, Sara Edlin-Marlowe loves to have fun working with Chung.
“She’s a strong actress,” Edlin-Marlowe said.
Head of the Drama Department, Bill Marlowe directed Chung in Lysistrata and Oedipus. According to Marlowe, Chung is an important asset to the acting program.
“Her ability to be absolutely real in the moment on stage (is great),” Marlowe said.
Chung said she really enjoys working with Marlowe and Edlin-Marlowe as directors becasue of their good ideas and openess to suggestions from others. Another good thing about working on a second production is the growing relationships with the cast members.
“This cast is terrific to work with,” she said. “It’s always fun.”
Chung is a Pre-med student to be a Pediatrician. Chung, 25, works as a pediatric nurse at Sacred Heart.
Chung, who loves to work with children, explained that she always enjoys seeing the interplay between
parents and children. One of her motivations to be a Pediatrician is to encourage and strengthen families.
“I want to reinforce strong families and help weak ones in any way I can,” she said.
