The Viking is Spokane’s own
World Beer Bar.
A tour of the world usually
means leaving the city, the state,
or even the continent, but thanks
to The Viking there’s no need.
Boasting over 30 beers on tap
and more than 100 available by
bottle, The Viking has been a
part of Spokane for over 30 years
and strives to bring together
great food, beer
and friends.
Located
at 1221 N
Stevens St.,
The Viking
is hidden but
worth finding.
Decorated
in the style of
an old English
pub, the walls
are covered
with beer advertisements from
all different periods.Overhead
are flags from many different
countries. The Viking offers a
tour the world through the many
varieties of beer. Sitting at the
circular table with the sand fire
pit in the middle really creates an
authentic Viking feel.
The menu has a variety of
foods including a Beerfeater
sandwich to Sea Trawler
sandwich with fries. Customers
coming in immediately recieve
first rate service, a bowl of
popcorn and a list of the specials.
“I have never been here before,”
said Shannon McClendon, a
Viking customer. “But everything
was so great from the food to the
service, I’ll definitely be coming
back.”
McClendon says she usually
isn’t a beer drinker but when she
told the waitress with a few beers
she did like, the waitress chose
for her.
“It was amazing,” McClendon
said. “The waitress brought a beer
called Great White and now it’s
my new favorite.”
The prices generally range from
$4 to $8 for a large entree worth
several servings.
Every year The Viking
holdsThe Tour de Beers event.
It starts May 1 and ends in
September with a Tour de Beers
party with prizes held in October.
Ken Marl, a frequent customer,
makes a habit of visiting The
Viking with his buddies.
“This is our favorite bar,” says
Marl, “ Me and the guys usually
come in and play a few games of
shuffleboard or pool and try as
many different
types of microbrews
as we
can. “
Marl
says he is
planning on
participating
in the Tour
de Beers and
wants to drink
one of every
type available.
“It’s going to be tough but I
think I can handle it,” Marl said.
The Viking has won the Best
Beer Bar contest in the Inlander
for the last 3 years and hopes to
remain on the top.
