Finding good Chinese food in Spokane

Opportunity meets success

The advent of many fast food Chinese places like Panda Express has not stolen the heart found in small ma and pop shops around Spokane.

Whether some mean sweet and sour chicken, warm egg flower soup, or perfectly sticky white rice are sought, these four restaurants have made it to my top list of Chinese food stops. All range from price and type of dining experience desired.

Battles in kitchens

Keeping cool while serving food

Two arrogant sides fight constantly through the pass bar, a counter with overhead heat lamps, where cooks put the food for pick up, exchanging heated words of who is the best and lecturing when a mistake is made. These two sides are in every restaurant, it is the battle between the servers and the cooks, the kitchen and the dining room.

During slow times, the sides seem to have a mutual agreement and are quite friendly to each other. This is the part of the day to suck up to the ones that were pissed off the night before and the ones that will be enraged later. This time is also for the cooks to joke with the chef and get their nightly prep done. It is also the time the servers to set up their stations and get in the good graces of the floor supervisors.
