| Fair focuses students on four-year transfer |
| From receiving associate’s degrees to bachelor’s degrees, students who attended the Fall Transfer Fair were able to understand the step-by-step process of transferring to universities throughout the region. First year SFCC student Jared Tuohy attended the fair to learn what the other universities require. “I’m guessing we have to have at least 75 of our credits transferable to the university of our choice, by the university transfer guidelines,” Tuohy said. First, transfer students have to apply to the Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) -which is a statewide transfer credit policy. According to the current DTA Associate Degree Guidelines, it will be issued only to students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 or better for all types of college-level work and be based on 90-quarter hours of transferable credits. Associate Director of Admissions at Whitworth University, Celeste Lewis attended the fair to give students tips on transfer to Whitworth. “Although most colleges require there be a certain amount of credits to transfer, there is no minimum number of credits needed to transfer to Whitworth,” Lewis said. “If a student has fewer than 30 semester credits (45 quarter credits) of college level coursework we will need their high school transcript.” “Special preview days are perfect for prospective students who are interested in attending Evergreen in September 2010,” said Natasha Corradine, Admissions Counselor at Evergreen State College. “Preview days are Fridays, January 29 and February 5, 12, 19, 2010 with formal programs starting at 10:00 am.” Students who have completed a “DTA” may follow the guidelines of each school to transfer. Eastern Washington University- Students must meet university proficiency requirements in English and Math, Cultural and Gender Diversity, International Studies, and the Liberal Arts Enrichment as set forth by the EWU implementation schedule. Many of these courses may be incorporated into the approved AA degree. Gonzaga University- Enters at a junior standing. The university core is fulfilled by meeting AA-DTA requirements, except for the following: college mathematics course above intermediate algebra, Introduction to Speech, and six courses in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Seattle University- Completed Associate transfer degree will be granted 90 credits and junior standing. The Evergreen State College- Granted junior status and considered having met all general education requirements at The Evergreen State College. University of Washington- Have an academic associate degree and have 90 transferable credits taken in preparation for a professional academic major. Washington State University- Have successfully completed transferable coursework from an accredited college or university beyond your high school graduation and have a college GPA of at least 2.5. Western Washington University- Must include 90 credits, 75 of which must be on the Associate Degree Course List. Transfer distribution courses should be completed on a lettered or numeric grading scale, not pass/fail.
