Taser used to subdue suspect on campus
A Spokane police officer tasered a woman on the SFCC campus after she resisted arrest for violating a domestic violence order of protection, according to Jennifer DeRuwe, Public Information Officer for the Spokane Police Department. Amber Greer, 19, followed a student to Building 1 after he got off the bus on June 17. The two had an argument and the student called the police at 12:20 p.m., DeRuwe said. "She kept pulling away from (the officer)," DeRuwe said. "We can use whatever force necessary to make that lawful arrest." SFCC President Mark Palek sent a district-wide e-mail regarding the incident. He said SFCC is going to issue a no trespass order against Greer. Greer is not an SFCC student, according to SFCC Head of Security Dennis Hauenstein. Anne Tucker, the Public Information Officer for CCS, said the handling of the incident is a collaboration between the Spokane Police Department and SFCC's Security Department. "Our security department responded quickly and effectively as they worked with SPD," Palek wrote in the e-mail. Hauenstein said SFCC issues only about five or six of these orders per year. "No more than a handful," he said. No trespass orders are issued whenever someone is disruptive to learning or poses a threat to students or staff, according to Tucker. Hauenstein said a criminal act would also be cause to issue an order. The student had an order of protection, which is a court order to stop harassing or harming a victim, according to the Web site, protectionorder.org.
