The Communicator
Two quarters ago, I inherited the position of
Editor-in-Chief for The Communicator, and
now my time as leader is over. This spring,
current Managing Editor Judy Johnson will
be taking over. It would be a lie to say that
I am not sad to see my time as EIC go, but
the accomplishments of this paper during
my reign make me very proud to have been
a part of it.
This opportunity was daunting at times,
and always a challenge, but that is what
made it so sweet. We produced a 20-page
issue; we implemented new designs; we
brought in more advertising revenue than
ever before. These accomplishments are
not mine but ours, and I consider myself
lucky to have been in charge while they
happened.
I have always maintained that college
must be more than tests and grades. When
we can join something that is bigger
than ourselves that is when we get a real
education. In the fall when I became EIC
I wanted to be able, when my time was up,
to stand by our accomplishments and say
that we had grown as a student publication.
I wanted to say that we became more
appealing, more relevant, stronger, funnier,
and prettier. I wanted to be able to say that
I had left this paper better than I had found
it.
Looking back I can say with full
confidence that is exactly what I have done.
I didn't do it alone by any means, and those
who will run the show after me will likely
do even more. I feel very good about the
hands in which I leave this paper.
This has been a true life experience, with
all the highs and lows that go with it. I
wouldn't have it any other way, and I will
never forget it.
