CHEM 141- Advanced General Chemistry I (5 cr)

molecule

This is the first in a three quarter sequence of rigorous instruction in general chemistry. The topics in this three quarter sequence may be presented in various orders depending on the text used. Students are strongly encouraged to complete all three courses in the same academic year to ensure exposure to the full range of important topics in general chemistry.

Possible topics may include measurements, atomic structure, ionic and molecular compounds, aqueous solutions and molarity, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, quantum theory and electronic structure, periodicity, chemical bonding, and molecular geometry. Lab involves both qualitative and quantitative aspects of chemistry with necessary accuracy for such work.

Math prerequisite: Two years of high school algebra or MATH 111 (may be taken concurrently).
Chemistry prerequisite: One year of high school chemistry with a 2.0 grade or better or CHEM 100 or permission of instructor.
